Consistency Minimal

چکیده
Replication is an essential utility in mobile environments. Mobile units not connected to xed networks are left with their own data resources which may or may not contain the necessary data. This paper describes beneets and problems using replication in mobile infrastructures. We compare diierent replication approaches for xed and mobile systems. We show that traditional protocols are inadequate for the requirements for mobile environments, especially by accessing multimedia data. The objectives of replication, high availability, permanent consistency and low communication costs, are incompatible. Consequently, replication protocols must nd suitable compromises. However , rather than creating a general approach for all possible mobile environments, we tailor suitable replication mechanisms for special mobile environments and data types. This approach allows for conngured replication based on various environmental and data characteristics.

Characterizing Consistency-Based Diagnoses
In this paper, we are mainly concerned with consistency-based diagnoses for systems represented in a propositional framework. Several characterizations of such diagnoses (mainly minimal diagnoses, kernel diagnoses, MT-diagnoses) have been proposed so far. Unfortunately, minimal diagnoses, and MT-diagnoses characterize only some consistency-based diagnoses and the set of kernel diagnoses for a s...
متن کاملStructural analyses of a hypothetical minimal metabolism.
By integrating data from comparative genomics and large-scale deletion studies, we previously proposed a minimal gene set comprising 206 protein-coding genes. To evaluate the consistency of the metabolism encoded by such a minimal genome, we have carried out a series of computational analyses. Firstly, the topology of the minimal metabolism was compared with that of the reconstructed networks f...
متن کاملA Minimal Method for Restoring Temporal Information Consistency
Information often comes from different sources and merging these sources usually leads to apparition of conflicts which have to be detected then eliminated in order to restore the information consistency. In this paper, we are interested in temporal information in the framework of simple temporal problems (STP). We propose a method which restores the consistency of an STP in a minimal way, i.e....
متن کاملTimeout-Sensitive Portfolio Approach to Enumerating Minimal Correction Subsets for Satisfiability Problems
Constraint satisfaction has become ubiquitous in the modern world, able to model and offer solution techniques for many of the most pressing problems. However, no matter how good the techniques become, some problems just do not have a satisfiable solution, and are referred to as inconsistent. Yet even when such problems are considered, one is still interested in finding the minimal subset of co...
متن کاملFrom Local to Global Consistency in Temporal Constraint Networks
We study the problem of global consistency for several classes of quantitative temporal constraints which include inequalities, inequa-tions and disjunctions of inequations. In all cases that we consider we identify the level of local consistency that is necessary and suucient for achieving global consistency and present an algorithm which achieves this level. As a byproduct of our analysis, we...
متن کاملAutomatic Consistency for Disk Storage
We make a case for ensuring semantic consistency of data at the disk-level. With the additional knowledge of pointers inside a block-based disk, we show that strong meta-data consistency semantics can be provided by the disk. Today’s consistency mechanisms operate at the software-level making disks totally oblivious to the consistent state of the data. Knowledge of consistency at the disk level...
